    Quick way to check for rodknock: with engine idling, pull off 1plug wire at a time, if the noise stops you got a rod bearing problem, if the noise continues, you have other problems.

    If you go for a fan clutch I would recommend the GM model for the 454, I replaced mine with a Hayden HD unit and the engine temp went up 10 degrees with a GM 7 blade fan, put back the original and back to normal temp, maybe clutch was defective ?

    My 76 C10 stepside, 468,alum heads, big cam (?), TH400, 456gears, 31x16 tires, 750 Edelbrock, gets 6-7 if I stay out of it, I consider that OK for what it is.

    When I was hauling boats with a Chevy dually I mounted 155 decibel air horns under the box behind the cab and installed 2 200 psi electric compressors feeding into a 10 gallon air tank, what a great way to stop on ramp cars trying to cut in front of you getting on the highway !!!!!!

    Adding gauges

    You can buy the gauge adapters that allow about 30 degrees ? Angle on the gauges, I used them in my Nova with the gauges cut into the dash, worked great.

    Definitely get " agreed value policy ", my insurance on my 76c10 is $304 per year,agreed value of $ 30,000 . It is insured as a classic not an every day driver, I carry limits of $ 250,000/ $ 500,000 .

    Milky oil after 1984 K10 305 top end rebuild.

    You can also pressure test your cooling system with a tester on the rad, when the pressure drops you can possibly hear the air leaking in what area.
