Steady 5.5psi fuel pressure drops when warmed up

Absolutely normal on a liquid filled gauge. They're usually only accurate cold. Early in my years of building cars with Mallory electric pumps, I chased the same non-issue. You'd know if your FP fell that significantly. Don't believe the gauge. The truck is telling you it's fine. Believe it.

Stock 400 small bock with bigger cam

So... Before you remove, upgrade, or change out anything let's get your start/runtime/idle issues sorted. First things first, do you have the manual for the AVS? If not, go download it. Edelbrock legitimately has a pretty well written short book on carb theory, and how to tune it. Your...

K20 upgrades. EDELBROCK AVS II. Why so negative ?

The issue is rarely the carburetor; it's usually the person setting it up. I have Q-Jets, AFB/AVSs, and 1450s running in my fleet right now. Just about anything can be made to work anywhere, as long as you have physical room for it, and roughly sized fuel/air for your motor. The only thing I've...

    Rebuild th400 or 4l80e?

^^This. Plus a 4L80E is stronger than any 400, unless you build a full on race transmission (which has it's major street drawbacks.) Buy the controller, enjoy OD, enjoy not leaking, enjoy being able to tune the transmission's shift points and firmness. Enjoy a transmission case that's at least...

New build 454 and the wife hates the exhaust smell

The last Eddys I installed on a car (a 800 CFM AVS and an 600 or 650 CFM AFB) were cast by Weber in Italy and built in the US. That AVS went through my hands six weeks ago. AFB was mid-summer. The last Holley I bought, for myself was a 4150HP. That was cast, assembled, and flowed in the US...

New build 454 and the wife hates the exhaust smell

You really want to eliminate the smell? Put cats on it. I put cats on my '76 GMC Motorhome, which has a Sniper 2. Have cats on my '63 Impala with a Holley Terminator Stealth. In both cases, I got sick of smelling like, and smelling, exhaust. In those cases, the 455 and 409, respectively, lost...

After installing aftermarket tach the truck will not start

I'm assuming you used the tach output on the HEI? The wire that's next to the switched ignition power source for your spark? Check there... I'd bet you jiggled that wire loose, or you have a dead short, somewhere on the tach signal input wire, drawing current off the HEI. Unplug the tach...

Aftermarket EFI and dual internal pump tanks

I've put nearly 10,000 miles on a dual-tank LS swap. Dual 1987 tanks (truck is a 1986), two in tank pumps, 1987 ******* valve and dash switch, and a three-relay setup that's been documented here for power. I can even switch, towing, uphill under load. Truck won't even stumble. I've even...

    Header hell

It should be relatively easy. They've been making SBC C/K headers for these trucks since, well, 1973. I have a set of $200 Dynomax's that came off my personal SBC (now LS) C10. They sealed fine. There were a set of Jeg's ceramic coated $300 headers on a K10 I did a restoration on with a built...

    Mandrel exhaust shop

100% true. When we build a show car (or six-figure restomod) people want to see it. Actual horsepower gains? Virtually non-existent. It's prettier. That's about the only thing I can say for it. My square? A LM7 5.3, with a cam, tri-y's, an x-pipe, dual high-flow cats. It's not a rocket. Nor...

    Mandrel exhaust shop

We have one in Buffalo, (Mufflerman in Kenmore.) They've done our SEMA builds, most of my personal cars, and cars we build for others. They also vend Solo mufflers, which I really like for a daily that you want a little growl in, but quiet enough that it doesn't drone on the highway. They've...

help me find this ticking noise on my truck ( 1978 Chevy C10 305 )

Check your pulleys, too. I had a crank pulley shear between the bolt holes, it began cracking all the way around, on a 400 SBC. Handy stethoscope seemed to point me to a timing chain locating the noise, so after a lot of profanity and bleeding (it was on a '69 Corvette, not a lot of room), I...

Anyone ever make/crimp their own high pressure hoses?

As a heads up, I own that exact crimper. It will hold A/C pressure, I use it frequently to make custom hoses and ends for restomod cars that I build all the time. It WILL NOT hold hydraulic pressure. I loaned it to a friend who tried to make power steering hoses. I warned him after he did it...

How much oil pressure is to much for a stock 350

I'll echo a few comments on here, and give you my advice... Sid, a few comments back said over 60 is bad. Stone cold, for a few minutes, 60 is OK. He's right though, you hold that on a Gen1 SB, you'll start wearing bearings. Cold, with decent tolerances, on 10/30, 40-60PSI for startup is good...

    I finally gave up.

No; they do have some stuff that's nice quality (if you ever get it), and offer some parts/packages that other companies don't. For example; when I wanted door panels for my Burgundy '87 Silverado, LMC only had black (or tan or blue) for the door panels. Some of the insert pieces were dyed...
