Thanks!! just used this to buy new strut assemblies for my s*baru!
RA was 1/2 the cost of oreilly's for the exact same part from the same manufacturer.
i have a good friend building a new carb for me. When its ready to install we are going to check the timing, do a tune up, and come up with a plan for a rebuild. He and his dad have been racing 454s for the last 40 years ... so im going to let him tell me what to do with it and how to run it...
easier yes, but the only thing i would gain would be an OD gear. The other ratios are identical (or damn close).
If i go to the trouble of swapping drivetrain components, i want more gears in between so the truck actually moves without having to shift at 4k rpm, which is a contributing factor...
Im thinking it may be the way to go. swap the SM465 for a rebuilt unit and install the GV at the same time, then adjust driveshafts as necessary.
Yeah, I am working on getting it tuned up and running right. I picked up a Subaru Forester for the time being.
Perhaps that my problem, I think...
Does yours try to diesel after you shut it off? about 30% of the time i shut mine off it diesels another round ... especially if i leave it idling for a while.
that says rich to me, or a crack the carb base ... but i honestly know very little and am trying to learn my way through life hahaha.
Wonder if i could run the 1411, electric choke and 2% leaner for the altitude, then tune it a little more altitude since I need to be about 6% leaner than sea level according to edlebrock.
I have a 750 being built for it by a friend but i dont know the number off of it.
i have a protach taht the PO put into the bezel ... did a pretty good job too .. bu it seems to be reading high to me. I can run it out to 4500 rpm pretty quickly.
it does seem to run rich at idle ... and mine runs lean everywhere else (surges off idle and backfires if you dont roll into the...
yeah ... i think the PO put it on there thinking it would help with the altitude (6000 ft) ... which is backwards lol. All of my calculations say a 500 cfm on a 454 maxes out around 3400 rpm.
