    Modified engine crewcab gas mileage?

    6.99 to best of 9.75 mpg on my 85 K30 with mild 410 Big block/4 speed. 4.10 gears. I keep trying to get to 10 MPG! The good thing is it runs on low octane pump gas.     Thornbird or Super Swampers?

    Super Swamper TSL RADIALS were good on my truck for many years, but they were only available in 16.5's, so I went to a Cooper all terrain type. Much more peaceful, yet they don't look as cool.

    Sell the dually and buy a single rear wheel 3/4 or 1 ton. Trying to modify the dually will just ruin it and you will have a worse situation when you get done, then it wont be worth selling to get a decent truck.

    Post 454 rebuild and oil consumption

    Break in oil, and run it hard. The rings need to grind in on the cylinder walls until they seat. Synthetic wont allow that as well as break in oil, that is made for it. Lucas has a good one.

    Don't forget to lean it out one jet size for every 2000 feet in elevation you are at above sea level. Power valve should be half of idle vacuum. That plug looks like it is pretty rich.

    That looks like a non A/C truck? Probably any parts store will have one. I got one from AutoZone for mine recently, although it is an A/C truck.

    I think that all Edelbrock carburetors have this problem. they don't hold the gas in the bowl, overnight. It must evaporate or something. I am not sure if this happens with other types of carburetors. I usually have to crank it for a few seconds, then pump it about 10 times, then repeat a couple...

    Potential wiring problem

    I dont think that '83 trucks "think". They don't have computers that would provide overheat protection, prevent it from starting, no matter what the gauge says, or if it even is hooked up. Maybe you are having other wiring issues that are preventing it from starting.

    350 SBC. LS swap is cool, but a lot involved for not much better gas mileage. Don't make it more difficult than it already is going to be getting that old square back on the road.

    On a TH400 there is an electrical switch that goes through the case near the valve body. I don't remember exactly, but it hooks onto something under the pan, and that controls the kick down. Maybe unhooked or needs a replacement switch. Its been a few years since I had a TH400, but I drove it...
