did ya buy it yet?

I DID, in fact, contact Ted, the OP.

I told him I want it and if it's still around at this time next week, it's found a home.

I ALSO reached out to Brother Bryan for some 500 CID info and BRYAN SAID :

"Dude. Putting that in your truck ain't no challenge, we're going to need a Chevette."
I said "Corvette?"

He laughed and says "you wish!"

...not sure what's next.

time passes

Bryan says bottom end trouble and I argue it spins freely - he says the head gaskets are fine, it'll be the mains.

Okay. That's fine. I have a machinist dude but what I don't have is a $300 Cadillac 500 with a turbo 400 on the back...need to fix THAT PROBLEM first!

I don’t know how anything BBC can be “cheap”. Around here, a core BBC engine is a grand. Cadillac engines are lighter, and put out more torque than just about any engine, all things being equal. They were designed to effortlessly move 5500 pound land barge, and do it smoothly.

And they did it well...

Right?

All I really NEED TO DO about it RIGHT NOW is capitalize upon that $300 GIFT.
We can figure out what to do with it later... :) I need it safe and sound in MY backyard, not Ted's.

He says "ok".

That's good - he's on board! :D

I just finished securing a ride home for the new 500. I need to call Ted back..

So i've barely scratched the surface of "hot to" build a 500 cubic inch Cadillac engine, but I have discovered what I believe, are VERY USEFUL tips / ideas.

Lemme know if you have input regarding ;

In perspective - y'all know me.

A VERY SIMPLE ~ offset grind ~ of the stock STEEL? crank will train it to accept off-the-shelf BIG BLOCK CHEVROLET main bearings AND allow use of BBC 6.8" connecting rods. The Cadillac pieces are good to 5k..

Doing this yields a 35 cubic inch increase in displacement.

Add another VERY SIMPLE .030" overbore and you just built a budget 540.

A 540.

Hold on. Let that sink in real good....a 540 , Cadillac.

The Hott set-up has to find '68-'72 cylinder heads though..

Gotta swap intakes and even run the stock cam.

How much could it REALLY cost before you could bolt in in a Squarebody?

The MOTOR MOUNT KIT runs a measly $109.

That's the build. Budget 540 is going to be a thing.

Ready?

Oh, that's disappointing. Man I was hoping you would get that 500. Would have been THE premier engine on this site.

Awe man. I came in here looking for more good news. Oh well, like you said, maybe it worked out this way for a reason.
