All depends how it’s set up.

Can't set any of them up to work like a locker. If you're just driving around, leave it open, if you're wheeling, get a locker.

What’s nice about a posi is that you can set it up “tight” and it works, but in an extreme situation it will slip and not break **** as quickly.

Just spool both axles and peal teeth and break axles. Imo lockers for the street are pointless wastes of money. I know guys running Gov bombs in their front axles trouble free. If your using it for extreme off-roading by all means get a locker or a spool. Either one will do the same thing for occasional romp threw the mud snow on the farm a posi would be my choice.

If I were just driving around, I wouldn't waste the money on a posi, it will do nothing for you offroad, and nothing onroad.

Trutracs are helical gear posi's, there' no adding extra clutches to them, they are what they are. What what they are is looser than a 2.00 hooker. I had one back in the 90's, came in one of the 4wdPart center packages they used to sell, rear Detroit, Trutrac front. That thing unloaded on every single hillclimb or log crossing I ever did with it, worst waste of 340.00 or whatever it came too out of the 800 package price ever.

Yes, if you have a locker.

The rear goes inside a open carrier, so it's tricky to see.

For the front, I would run a Detroit there as well, and just unlock a hub if I want to run sharp offroad. Getting into ARB's or OX's doubles the cost, and any type of "posi" is just going to unload as soon as you lift a front tire.
are these better? the cone shaped piece is definitely solid and you can't see into it like on the front.

I have an Eaton in my front axle. Mine only a 30 spline 10 bolt though. Auburn from what I’ve read is non rebuildable , but in a front axle it won’t see much action so will probably last a long time.

I agree with CSFJ, that appears to be a Gov Loc, bummer, can't put a Detroit in it, need a whole new carrier to change it, but on the bright side, the 14B Gov locks tend to not explode like the 1/2 ton ones

not that it matters, because I'll put whatever works best for what I'm doing which is not serious rock crawling, not in this truck, anyway... but when I tried to pull that sunken concrete truck out, all four were spinning equally. I pulled for 15 or so seconds up to full throttle several times and each time all four were spinning according to my dad and the concrete Forman. so I just assumed the front was locked or at least an lsd.

no, that's the other funny thing, it says 411 and 4111. I thought they went from 410 to 456?

edit: the gear looks brand new, so whatever it is I don't think it's what was in it all along.

I think I may recall the previous owner say something about a posi in the front but it's all fuzzy. I still have an accordion folder full of receipts from the PO I need to check into.

Your front has a SPicer marking on it, and I can see a clutch, so it's likely a power lock.

Some axles have 4.10's, some have 4.11, but CUCV's have 4.56's. So your's have been monkeyed with for sure.
