I don't think there is a bolt on the front of a BB 454 like the the SB 350 to hold the fuel pump rod in the up position.
I've never worked on a BBC and was hoping...

I was hoping too. Going the grease on the push rod route and maybe a a small screw driver to hold it up.

Make it white grease is what I was taught besides the “bolt” use on the front of he block for sbc’s. BBCs require member input .

A little tip for anyone using the bolt in the front of a small block. Tighten the bolt finger tight only. If you tighten it to much you tweak the pushrod which may or may not cause an immediate problem, but can weaken it and 10,000,000 revolutions and flexes later the pushrod bends where you tweaked it.
