Gm went to the spring tensioner collar in the late 60s. 67 on up all use a spring which weakens over time. To fix it you have to disassemble the whole column. Make sure when you do to keep the shims and arms in order. If the notches are worn weld them up then file to fit the tongue. Gap should be thickness of paper match between tongue and groove. To much gap = loose, not enough = binding.

We've got one in an old '72. Great theft deterrent! No one knows how to drive 3 on the tree anymore.

For quick shifting the floor shift i better but I want to feel like in those old movies and I love it

For now it shifts fine. Hope I won't have to get to work on it anytime soon
