I'm looking for a Quadrajet for my 86 C30 with a 454, 4spd. Like the one pictured. My carb number is 17085004. Believe to be called a heavy duty carb.

You could send it off for rebuild? Lars is generally considered the king of quadrajet rebuilding. I think he is still around and kicking... last confirmed rebuild I saw was from late 2023. [email protected]

I've also bought parts from these guys and they seem OK. Looks like they will custom build one to your code. Might be worth contacting them. https://quadrajetpower.com/chevrolet-1980-s-17085000-chevy-truck-454/?searchid=0&search_query=17085

Obviously the other well known place would be Cliffs. https://cliffshighperformance.com/

Judging by the rivets still holding the choke on there is a good chance that carb has never been rebuilt. Clean it up and put a kit in it and as long as shafts are not worn out it should give many more years of service.

If you are still looking, try "Carburetors Unlimited", (623) 388-0990 or cell/text (623) 399-0179; [email protected];
[email protected]. Back in 2022, he told me that he had over 600 q-jets. He has the GM books and can tell you what
carb number your truck came with. He sent me a picture of the carb that he would rebuild for me and the patina looked so good on it that I told him not to clean the outside. Good luck with your quest.

@texasmike what was the cost involved?
About $500, no core charge and more than worth it to me. Here is a picture before the rebuild. I haven't had any problems and I use the truck 4-5 times a week.

Hey dont forget to take photos of all the Vac connections before you remove your quad.
To add to this putting stripes of white out on all the hoses before the Pic is a big help 1 stripe was here,2 stripes was there,and so on.

How is the factory carb on a 454 different from a factory one off a 350?
Idle air bleeds,jets,emulsion tubes,hangers, metering rods and all 350s aren't the same as each other, there are different styles of chokes,secondary lockouts,metering rods and choke pulloffs.

Might get my frankencarb project going by the end of the week, assuming that the world will leave me alone enough to try.
