Hi everyone, I have a 1986 C10 that I have been working on for almost a year. It has a rebuilt 350 (close to 400 horsepower), 700r4, 3.73 gears, long tube headers.

My question is: if I put the factory 15-inch wheels back on will I burn up my transmission or rear end due to the smaller tires?

Currently has 20-inch wheels with 30-inch tires, thinking about going back to 15-inch wheels with 26-inch tires.

Your transmission and gears don't care what size your rims are, it is the diameter of the tires you have. If you change to smaller tires your rpm will change, however with the gear ratio you have it will be ok. You will have to change the speedometer gears in the transmission to keep it correct if it was changed for your 30s. I believe it came with 26-27" tires stock.

Welcome from Central NC. I agree with @Moodyalaskan that the rim diameter isn't as crucial as is the tire diameter. Great looking truck BTW.

Welcome from Austria. Nice truck.
You will burn your transmission when you overheat it or if the TV cable is not adjusted right.
The transmission doesn't care about tire size.

I may not be thinking right but Smaller tires will make the trans pump spin faster im thinking? So if anything it should make it start shifting firmer

Even if im off and it would spin the pump slower, you could just adjust your TV cable a click or two probably.

3.73 with those tires was factory option on a burb. He shouldn't have to mess with anything. And 700r4s I wouldn't be messing with TV cable if I was him. Not a place a novice should start effen around, they have a tendency to keep effing around then post back a week later that lost 4th gear so they changed it again lost 3rd gear moved it some more put it back but that didn't help. Not you @Vbb199 YOU! Newb don't eff with TV cables until you understand how they work and what they do.

At first i read this and was like Burb? This is a c10?? Have a sip of coffee rick! Haha just kidding.

Yea youre right, OP you probably dont need to fiddle with the TV for sure unless youre comfortable with that like he said. A younger me has burned up multiple 700s not understanding how to set that lol
