My truck has a 700r4 and a np208 tcase now but need rebuilding. I found a used th350 and np205 tcase. I need opinions on which one would work better and if I went with the th350 option, would it simply bolt right in with my driveshafts

if you have a DD, all stock 1983 pickup that you want to be reliable and drive anywhere I would use the 700r4 and np208

but if your running a mud truck that you do hardcore off-roading run the np205

Reliability is the issue with the 700r4. If you can't afford to have someone reputable do a rebuild on it ($), then save yourself some aggravation and just go with the th350 and be done with it (that would be getting rebuilt too, right?) once and for all. The drive shafts will need modified however.

I would rather build a 700r4 just for the overdrive, if you go to a turbo 350 its only a three speed but is much more reliable. the 205 transfer case is gear driven not chain driven. you can build a good 700r4 that will last you a long time though, and you already have it.

If you go with the 700r4 get your wallet out have it rebuilt right or you become a pro at changing a tranny in your truck. when i say built right i mean have all the corvette updates to it. thats the only way I would waste time bolting a 700 in my truck. but thats just my opinion

following was my plan for 700r4, but I have currently reduced it to a cheaper closer to stock spec package due to cost and the fact that it is going in a 2wd short wide with no more than 300hp

torque converter_____________________PDQ-C40-HDT___168.38 replace with 4x4 s10 torque converter for 2200 rpm stall
Torrington bearing kit_________________BRGTWKIT700____24
TC lockup solenoid_________________________ 99837____14.25
10 vane oil pump parts with no yo yo___________________34
0.470 main boost valve_______________________________17.89
new rear planetary(5 pinion preferred)___________________165.51
29 element input sprag_______________________________28.75
manual low/reverse sprag____________LOREVSPRAG700___17
GM Turbulator low-drag steel_______________SKU3885____19.8
Master kit inlcudes below items_________________________368.65
Borg Warner, Hi-Energy wide 2-4 band
Forward, Manual Low/Reverse, Overrun, and Reverse Input Clutches
Corvette 700R4 2nd Gear Servo
seperator plate
check balls
valve body gasket
Sonnex sun shell

Total 858.23

other option that I am going to go with instead is similar to the following kit with 4x4 s10 torque converter (I have a mild cam in truck):
