Btw @HotRodPC , whatever happened to davbill? He has provided me with quite a bit of entertainment, while reading some of the older threads....
As @bucket mentioned, he does drop in from time to time to say hey, and we don't mind that.

I've heard that depending on the plate, it changes when you can legally drive the vehicle. For instance re-registering the old embossed year plates are supposed to limit use to parades and car show type events, and it seems that I had heard similiar about the historical plates too. I'm sure most of it depends on local law enforcement's attitude, but I don't need to be hassled if I want to drive an antique to work in the middle of the week.

I have a 1979 plate on my 79. I can legally drive it to and from car shows, parades, events.

So basically, I can drive it everywhere I want to drive it lol. But, 79 plates are black and white, and I want the blue and white, boo hooo me.

In California, location doesn't make a whole lot of difference. I live about 20 miles from Frankchevy in a different county, but I know my K30 was $265 on or before 12/31. Our new reg fees started 1/1/18, and based on the age of my truck, it will go up another $50 for 2018 ($315). My two newer vehicles are going up $150 each!!

At what point do you say enough is enough and move out of the state? What are they doing with the money they charge for registration?

I like to bitch, moan and complain about it, but it's not so bad. it is expensive, but I don't notice a lack of freedom here. I've lived here, Colorado and Wyoming. I'll stay here. I like being two hours from the beach and an hour from the deep snow in the Sierra Nevadas. I like how temperate the weather is. in my part of Northern California, we have all four seasons and they are equal in length. to each their own...

it's the most geographically diverse state in the US. we have the tallest mountain in the continental 48 (mt Whitney), the lowest valley in the US(Death Valley), one of the deepest alpine lakes in the world (Lake Tahoe), the Pacific Ocean, Yosemite, Redwoods and many other national parks that are incredible. I get to wake up every morning to a beautiful landscape. I get to hunt, shoot and four wheel without leaving my property. I realize it's not like this everywhere in the state.

yes it's expensive, but your income is proportionate.

It is a very diverse state, but I can't wait to leave it. Even if it is just across the border in Nevada so I can still enjoy the diversity you mentioned, it will mean lower cost of living and less regulations.

I enjoyed my time in Orange County, but once my house burned down, I lost my job, and my girlfriend left me, I was done with California.

He's right, it doesn't matter where you live. My Pop is almost done restoring a '68 Pontiac LeMans and the registration on that is going to be higher than his '69 3/4 ton 4x4 F250. He is livid. They are considering moving to AZ.

dayum, talk about a run of bad luck. my valley gets over 48" of rain per year and stays fairly green. some dickwad 10 miles from me was mowing a field in the middle of July last year and set his yard on fire. only got 5 acres but I bet his neighbors butts were puckered up.

There are a lot of unreal things about Cali. 1. The gun laws are a joke. It makes me laugh, if I was a piece of **** intent on hurting people, you would rather me shoot you, than get a hold of you with a blade. 2. The political climate out there, will lets just say they all need to put out of y'alls misery.

Now that being said, I was born and raised in San Diego. East County. It ise to have a very small town feel. It was great I was 20 minutes from the beach, 25 minutes from the mountains. 1.5 hours to the desert. I have a lot of wonderful memories of Cali, it was a different time. I was stationed at Camp Pendleton Oceanside, Ca. The Mexican food is the best, bets the hell out of this Tex-Mex crap they have here. The produce has always been great. A bag of Haas Avocados for 5 bucks, when they are 2 bucks each here. The weather was great. It's funny when my wife and I go back for a visit, and they are having a high humity day at 20%. Everyone is always saying how humid it is....lol come to East Texas in August, than we can talk humity. It it wasn't for the BS going on out there, I might buy a time share.
