I changed the little bushing on the shift linkage on my turbo 400 but the truck still doesnt all the time go into park. if i crawl under and do it by hand it will, so it is the linkage.

Can someone post a pic of a complete linkage set up?? Im missing that spring that is sopost to be on the linkage.

not sure why it wont go into park most of the time. really dont think its the trans.\\

help and a pic would be great!!

thanks

Liam

Sounds like you just need to adjust the linkage. There is a small set screw/bolt that tightens against the linkage from the column. Once it's loose, you can slide the linkage up or down to adjust it to where it needs to be. It's trial and error, really.

Do you mean it won't go into park, or do you mean park won't hold???

Sounds like it's in reverse when it's really in park.

Check the bushings to the linkage as well.

Ahh yes, then it's linkage adjustment, bushings or whatnot. Not getting a full movement all the way up it sounds like. Even with a bad bushing though, it should still get park or at least enough to not be in reverse.

Yeah, that's what it's sounding like, I can't find pics of the adjustment on it to save my life...

This is a 700r4 linkage, but very similar.

It looks like you loosen the bolt at the lower pivot and adjust it to where it needs to be. My '79 K30 doesn't always go into park either, but it will go in with a nice firm shove into the park position. I never remember that it needs adjusted.

I just realized we're dealing with a 4x4 here. I bet it didn't get adjusted properly with a lift kit.

Does this truck have a lift? Suspension or Body? Or Both?

Only a body lift would throw it out of adjustment.

Otherwise it would be caused by worn body mounts or worn engine mounts. Or both.

Yup, why I was asking what type of lift. Even possible a Tcase mount although a bit of a far stretch.

Or a t-case drop, now that you mention it.

Yep, that's what I'm getting at since the trans mount actually is part of the adapter between the 2. Hopefully his issue is one of these simple things. I'd have to say it is for certain if he's not feeling any kind of binding, so the pan being removed isn't going to be necessary.

One way to figure it out sure, is to disconnect the linkage and manually put it in park by hand underneath. You'd be a feel of gear detents too this way to make sure your detent spring has come off or broke off the manual valve linkage.
