Tailgate Band Mounting?

I looked at my spare banner for my 87.
This is the style on the truck, flat speed nuts.
Here are ones from another project I bought from the local parts store.
They have various sizes and you would just need to buy the correct bolt/screw to match. Since there is approx. 3" between the mounting point and banner taller speed nuts will fit.

So how do you take the band off without messing it up? I bought a set of those plastic trim tools from Harbor Freight, but don't want to screw up the band since it is in pretty good shape.

So how do you take the band off without messing it up?

There are 4 Torx screws on the inside of the tailgate. You can see the rusty circles in the recesses of the gate.
