7.5 was also available. So it is safe to say that the 8.5 were used in the 442/Hurst and GN.

Yep, for sure. 82 up and had 3.73 gears OEM in Hurtst for sure, not positive on the GN, but I'd beleive so too.

OK lemme add my .02 worth. Ive got 92 S-10 with the 2.8 and 5 speed. Ive done a lot to it electric fan smog pump delete shorter belt MSD Accel coil and 8.8 wires no cat and cherry bomb muffler lowered 3 inches. It runs pretty good for what it is. As for the axles i know ive got a 7.5 with 3.42 and yes the car rear ends are the same width but yea you need to modify them to work. The best change for a S truck is a rear out of a newer Blazer. If you have a 2wd S truck look for a 2wd Blazer rear they are the same width. 4wd rears are 2 inches wider. A lot of the blazer rears are disk brake read also so its a good upgrade and very easy to do. All of the front end parts will interchange between the G-body cars and the S trucks

Yea unfourntantly i have to find a trans for mine it locked between gears a couple of weeks ago and and has a clunky feel to it when it does move. Its a 5 speed and should be easy to find one but everybody wants top dollar for them.

You're right, and Auto's seem to be everywhere and much cheaper to build. This is why I do automatics even though my preference is manuals.:crazy::crazy: Good Luck on your search, surely you'll find one for a couple hundred or so. You going to replace the clutch while its apart too??? I'd consider it if its been quite some time ago.
