I'm close to having my engine and tranny ready to pull as one unit. We got to the point of splitting the transfer case from trans and had a question. We were thinking we'd leave the driveshafts and transfer case in place if we could. The adapter from trans to transfer case is mounted to the crossmember. Can we split the two in front of the crossmember and leave the transfer case sitting there intact?

You could try that, I personally don't do it that way but that doesn't mean it can't be done. It not hard dropping the shafts, and pullin t case out first.

That's true. I got to looking at it and it might not work because the trans will have to come down as it comes forward. I might just drop the transfer case after all.

I guess I still need to know if I can split them at either end of the shaft that connects them

Yes, you can split them at the front side of the adapter but be sure to drain the fluid so it doesn't spill. I would also put a jack under the t-case to support it, all of it's weight is on the back side of the crossmember so it will NOT balance there.
