I am starting an LS swap on my 83 K10 reg cab short bed. I haven't picked an engine or transmission yet but I'm leaning towards a newer engine with a 6L80 or 6L90 transmission. I'm looking for transfer case options. NP241C has the passenger side drop I need, what do you think, good/bad? Atlas? What are you guys running? It's going to be a sunny day daily driver. Thanks in advance.

either get a 4l80 and then use any 32 spline passenger drop TC, or you will need to use whatever TC comes with your 6L80. If you get a 6l80/90, you will need to get a billet front covered torque converter. 83 was a year or two too early for you to be able to just reuse your stock NP208 I believe. If you get a 4l60e with your engine, you could likely just bolt it right up to your existing TC depending on what your current trans is.

I used a 2005 5.3 4l60e with a NP241C from a 1991 Jimmy. The NP241C came off a 700r4 that is the same length as the 4l60e, so it bolted up like factory and the front driveshaft is the correct length.

Thanks for the advice. I like the idea of a 2003-2012 drive by wire 6.0l with a 4l80e, after some thought I don't think the extra two gears are necessary. The truck came with no drivetrain, so I am starting with a blank slate. How do you think a NP241C will hold up to a 6.0/4l80e combo?

If it's gonna be a sunny day, daily driver as you say, I think your'e getting kinda anal on the amount of gears and strenght of the t-case don't ya think? If it's gonna be a Mall Crawler, forget the T-case altogether and enjoy the improved gas mileage. Heck, you might be up there in the elite 12/13 mpg club. Of course I'm just messin with ya. Maybe
