Is this a good deal on a set of heads?

What is this for? Your '79 K10? The "no acc holes" would be a deal breaker on a truck that new unless you don't plan to run more than an alternator and maybe PS pump. My brother paid $300 for a set of pretty fresh 350 camel hump heads with accessory holes, which I'd say is a good deal.

Even if you could get by with no accessory holes, I'd make the deal contingent on them passing a magnaflux test for cracks.

Yes, Alan Grove Components and other companies make brackets for early heads, and are mounted to water pump and exhaust manifold/header bolts.

Unless you just gotta have chrome or aluminum brackets, I highly recommend Alan Grove. They're not low cost, but they fit well and come with excellent instructions. I bought their power steering pump brackets after wasting my time and money with some cheap Chinese brackets (sold under at least a half dozen "brand" names) that were total junk, from the poor fit, to not working with a 2-groove pulley, to cheesy soft bolts.

Obo?!
Ok.
Does your target vehicle have an A/C compressor in it? That's largely all the "accessory" holes are for? The P/S bolts into the block, right? First year for A/C was '66? The alternator bracket too or does that long bolt go into the head? I think it does but that wouldn't stop me. Get an older bracket...
Either way, there's some way around that! The opposite of the wrap around bracket that uses the manifold bolt in rounded line trucks is easy enough to fab. **** man, we'll figure it out!

Seems like a damn good deal to me @$350!!

Or!

Dude! Why run that hooptie junk?
That's 50 year old technology brah. Just get some vortex for that much, - you'd make more power ! Plus vortex has accessory bolt holes!

The pic looks like they used an abrasive surfacing disc to clean up the head surface. In which case - those heads will need to be machined properly before using them.

I had a set of 461's on a 350 once. Compression was just over 10:1 so it was sensitive on fuel octane. 2.02 461 heads were 64-69 only and were used on 350 hp 350 engines and 375 hp 327 engines.

I found a set, fresh rebuilt 461s.

Sooooooo, now I'm more interested in the brackets.
Gonna leave some links here for future reference ;)

This article told me what is wrong with my current pulley system, that has a handful of Corvette parts tossed in it!

http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/49718-small-block-pumps-pulleys-brackets/

Something I've read that may help a GREAT deal in our search for brackets....Heads without "accessory holes" were used on motors that ran a SHORT WATER PUMP. Eff! That switch was in 1969 and a lot of our square body accessories switched sides.

o_O.

Look into that long enough and you'll find the name ALAN GROVE. He's got a $91 A/C bracket for LWP that is the only one I've found - so far. There is no way in hell I'd run a Rube Goldberg lookin belt like that though!
I see that air cleaner and hear horsepower dying!

The Vintage Air system on my 69 C10 used essentially that same bracket, but on the passenger side. It never gave me any problems, even w/o an idler pulley.
