That 6 speed is fairly new. I think I'd hold off on that one. Wait for bugs and fixes and redesigns to happen. Also wait for the wrecking yards to get several in stock and the prices will come down. For now, I'd do a 4L80-E, but I think I'd wait on the 6L80-E.

You'll pay dearly for the TCI 6 speed too.

5 days of 12 hrs is my limit and that's hard core. I may have a 10 day stretch if this hospital I'm at goes out on strike. I'm assuming it will. It is killer but gooood money.

Jim, Tell Nick how many 700r4's and how often you've replaced them in your Burb. Start adding it up for the last 5-6 years and what do you think your cost has been, and you're weren't towing a boat.

I think the builder has a lot to do with it. Ours has lasted the last 6 years or better and still works like the day it was installed. After thinking about it, I think it has around 65K on it, not the 50-60K I had estimated before. But I've also made sure to keep the fluid cool.

With that said, the only reason I went with a built 700r4 is because the truck already had a 700r4 in it. If it were a th400, I would have stayed with that... I didn't have the $ for a 4L80e or the extra time required to do the swap.

So can I tow in 4th gear on this 4L80e? Strong enough?

I don't think it matters with a 350 because your foot will be in the throttle enough that it will stay in 3rd.

I don't want to say yes then you tow a house in OD, but normally yes. You're boat will have no problem towing in OD w the 4L80-E, if the motor can hack it like bucket points out. But, with 4.10 gears, I think you'll be able to do it. Here's another advantage of the 4L80-E, or at least IMO it's an advantage. The 4L60-E has a .69 ratio for OD. The 4L80-E isn't quite as tall with a .75 ratio. So you're a bit least likely to bog down in the 4L80-E than the 700r4/4L60-E. I'm thinking with 4.10 ratio, stock tire size, .75 OD ratio, I'll go out on a limp and say you'll be able to tow in OD just fine even with a 350. Could be wrong, but I think it'll do it. But as far as hurting it, just let the trans decide what it needs to do and go for it. Where as the 4L60-E/700r4, you'd have to put it in D to keep it out of OD.
