Those are cool photos. Too bad the companies went to mostly robots for production. In doing so they lost a lot of style in their product and sent people packing looking for jobs.

Well...actually - it hasn't changed much.

There's a lot of automation in the '73-87 pickup cab shop that you are not seeing. Basic sheet metal parts were fed into one end and a completed pickup cab popped out the other (one completed cab every 45 seconds or so).

The Line 2 Blazer/Suburban cab shop was much more manual labor intensive at the time.

Most of the robots are used either for spot welds (as discussed above) or for material transfer (moving individual parts or completed bodies from one point to another).

You had no choice at the time. Something else will come along though, maybe even a 4x4 with tailgate.

Very True. I wish I could get busy on my Diesel VIN # 85 K10 too. Only cuz if I end up in Cali, it's smog exempt is why or I'd cut loose of it too. I think I've decided to just do that truck and use the wiring harness, seat, and 454 out of the C20 just to get it running with least out of pocket. THEN, hold out for what I really want instead of all this BS I've played all these years.
