Hey. Recently replaced my dead 400 sbc with 350 sbc. I retained the original flex plate for the th350 and put it on the new 350. I've had some trouble with shifting but now I have scraping and rattling coming from around the tranny at idle. An old guy told me that a flex plate from a 400 sbc won't work on a 350 sbc because the plate from a 400 sbc has weights on it to balance it while the 350 sbc is balanced internally. Is there truth to this? Could my flex plate be toast?

How would you go about determining the extent of damage so far?
