Hey Gang, i went to a junkyard today i found two 89-91 square body trucks with trip meter gauge in the speedo. Would that work in my 82 or is it set up different?

Thanks

Chris

I am not 100% sure but I think the 89 is still a cable driven speedo so that one would probably work,
But the 90 and 91 are electric speedometers so i dont think those are the ones you want. But again I am not for sure on all these others may be more confident in there answares.

I guess I am gonna have to go back with some tools and take it apart. I would really like the trip meter. Also the mileage is a bit off, any way to reset that or just wait till the truck catches up and swap it in.

I have heard that you can change them but I have never done it.

On a different subject. I see you have the cummins in your 82 chevy I would really like to pick your brain on that. Would you possably have a build thread on that here or on any other forum?

Thanks for the responses. Unfortunately i don't have a build thread for it. My buddy does these like they are going out of style. He completed the swap for me. I have picked up a bit from doing research and talking to my friend. I can help out with anything you need buddy just pm me.

If you find an '88, it should have the trip odo too. So there's at least two years that will work for you.

Cool, i am gonna go back to the yard next week. Should i grab the whole cluster or just the speedo? My other gauges are there but the only one that works is the LARGE fuel guage( Remind me how fast i run out bigger the better i guess) and battery. All others have gone to auto meter gauges. Wish i could find one with a tach, but probably wouldnt work with the diesel.

It would work fine with a V8 diesel.

There are squarebodies out there with 6s and a tach but i've seen TWO in my lifetime.

Dont forget to check in the old cocacola trucks, top kick grain trucks, ect. ect. The ones that had diesel engines had Factory tach dashes.
