Hello,

Im Affende. East Tennessee. Welder by trade, always had to just make it work and learn a few things about fixing a vehicle because i had no other choice.

I have had my Great-grandfathers 83 GMC C15 for about a year now. Great-grandfather passed away 10 years ago and never got to see this truck treated like it should be ... so the build begins.

My Great-grandfather bought it new in 83 and used it for his lumber / home improvement business for a few years. He sold the truck around '86 and bought it back around '88 ... so says the family. Grandfather got it shortly after the buy back, used it for years. Aunt and uncle hit some hard times so they got it ... and promptly destroyed it. Lack of maintenance, wrecks, and dents and dings pretty well did the truck in. Around 2003 my mother got the truck and used it on the farm where it was slowly brought back to life as far as essential running gear ... tires, oil, some maintenance, exhaust etc. Around 2009 it was parked in the field and left to die for numerous reasons ... none of which actually had to do with the truck.

I got the truck last year, where it made the 88 of 90 miles flawlessly ... the last two miles took 30 minutes of cranking, banging gears, dying, more cranking, more banging gears, smoke, locking brakes, and every other problem that makes you want to scrap it. I finally got the truck to the new house last year, moved it a dozen times to mow, and parked it where it sat till two weekends ago.

My great-grandfather called all of us his "roosters" ... and was a man of many cynicisms.

He coined such family phrases as "that'll make your rhubarb grow" and "that boys window aint all the way up" and our favorite "where are all my roosters" (children, grand children, etc).

He was simple, determined, and hard working.

As such, that is what i want this truck to be. Simple, determined, and hard working.

This will be a long (multi-year, i work for a living like everyone else) build.

It will be done in a simple way. Delete this ... throw that away.
It will be determined ... a sense of purpose and place with all of the family.
It will be hard working. It wont be a trailer queen ... that wouldnt do justice to His way of life. It will be built with some extras here and there and some overkill to make sure it can be used ... for a long time ... I want this to be my sons truck when he is ready for it. And i want him to help build it if he wants.

I guess thats long enough ... ill shut up now.

Always cool hearing those older stories from the past when the history goes along with a truck being passed down.
