I'm thinking maybe not. I have a feeling that is why they have the Military pull outs. They pull them out to better upgraded units in. Not sure on the letter VIN codes, but as said above, its the J motors and there are 2 VIN codes for the TD's. Is that the better one??? For $950 low mileage, I'd do it. For $5 K, I'd find me an old Dodge and do a Cummins swap.

I believe for the cost...if I wanted an upgrade in power...which most all 6.2 owners need it..ill buy one of the local 950 engines and buy a sidewinder kit and still have less than 5 grand in it...

Thats fine, but the engine has to be able to survive with the sidewinder kit.
They were never built for power, rather for reliability and economy.

OMG, Don't you even fall for that **** !!! A mutha fuggin 6.0 boat anchor POS and you loved it??? Puuuleeze !!! Granted, great power and good mpg, WHEN THEY RUN !!! J U N K !!! That's why you can buy them so cheap. Even a 2000 Dodge will bring alot more cash than a 2000 Ford.

I'm not sure if they're still availalbe, but there was a program where you could buy a 6.5 Turbo Diesel from the US Govt, for like $3-4K . Deal was they were HumV motors and swapped out for the better 6.5 Turbo. So it wasn't the good 6.5, but still step up better than the 6.2, was Turbo, and most were well under 10K miles. Like new motors.

Working for the Mont. D.O.T. they had a lot of those diesels over the years, the early ones,I`m not remembering if those were a 6.2 or just a 6 liter, and I have had a lot of experience trouble shooting those engines and working on them.the non turbo engines would get a lot of miles on them without too many mechanical problems and the 6.2 had some problems but nothing real expensive to fix.
I think it would be kind of fun to instill one of them later 6.2s into My 79. thats all.
