Nice Truck Todd. I see you installed a 454 in your 86 K20. We are currently finishing a complete rebuild on a 1973 454 and plan on installing it in our 83 K10.
I'm still looking for a cab for the 83 K10 if anybody can help. We are located in Jersey right outside of Philadelphia.

It amazes me how much rust the east coast vehicles have. Rust in the NW is not even close to what you deal with. One of my trucks needed a 6" repair on one door sill that was it.

A local pick and pull has at least 4 decent cabs too bad shipping would be prohibitive.

Probably more snow in the NE and road salts?

Thanks! It actually received a 454 transplant probably 25 years ago. And a new motor 15-20 years ago. Best guess talking with the last guy who owned it for any length of time, he put that motor in and it may have 20-40k miles total on it.
That motor will pair up nicely with your 83!
You oughtta show off your work here!

No probably about the road salt part. Even over in Spokane and the mountains east of Spokane, they get the same or even way more snow. Just a different environment and less salts used.
There’s a little more rust over there than on the coast here, but nothing compared to rust belt of the US of A.
Here, rust free cabs frequently get sent to the junk pile. Believe it or not. Guys that part out trucks, at least the couple I’ve dealt with will sell a bare cab cheap so they don’t have to scrap it.
The blue truck had some rust issues around the windshield and back window frames but clean as a whistle everywhere else.
This ‘77 I just picked up has NO rust (except the original looking exhaust has a few rust holes in the tailpipe) and original paint.

Yep, road salt is prohibited for use in Oregon except for a select few spots on the interstate through steep mountain passes. They mainly use crushed cinder on the roads to promote traction in the mountains and main roads. You can find a single cab donor around here for $150-300 with zero or very little rust all day long around here. Heck, you can still buy a whole donor truck that isn't running but has frame, drivetrain, and decent condition body for under $1000 pretty easily here.

And I paid 1k for mine, but he hated the truck and wanted it gone, it was easily a 5k truck tops, and I was willing talk him into 3k, but he took my low ball offer...lol...

you can also add a C10 standard to the mix for a donor as most of those are high humos also.

Magnesium chloride is the new preferred rust accelerator.....they say its will rot steel 4x faster than salt.

My buddy's son is a Ford tech in Pittsburgh, one of the first places for mag-chloride. They have 4 yr old (from new) vehicles coming in with the steering racks and whole front suspension rotting out. Only thing that has slowed down its use is the DOT finding their multi-million $$$ bridges also rotting out faster too.

OP: there was a decent cab in Toledo OH I saw a few months back. Probably still too far away.
