Well I pulled my timing cover to replace the gasket when much to my surprise, my timing chain has so much play in it that it's almost eaten all the way through the cover. So now I need a new timing set and cover.

NAPA has a couple of affordable options for the timing set:

Light duty

Heavy duty

I'm still limping along on the stock 305ci engine, so am I right in thinking the light duty is plenty?

They also have this timing cover:

Any reason that cover won't work?

I'm just trying to get a few more years out of this motor until I can drop in a crate 350ci, so I don't need the best and most expensive parts in the world.

It looks like I have the 12 o'clock style pointer but I can't find a cover with one already installed and all the bolt-on's look to be the 30 degree offset ones. Do I have to find TDC and set up a new pointer or can I find one that'll work in the stock location?

edit: nevermind. I figured it out.

I assume your engine is a non-roller cam 305 or 350, right?

You would be correct. I don't think anything except u-joints and wheel bearings have ever even been touched in this truck. Oil wasn't changed as often as it should have been for sure.

I don't know how many miles are on it(odo reads ~50k, but who knows how many times it has rolled over).
