I actually see that wooden handle one bein thrown away alot!
That's a bummer. If you ever want one for yourself, save one and send it out. I'll clean it up for you.

I have a chunk of apple wood root, that I'm gonna have my woodworker buddy turn into a handle for it.

My Dad had a Heathkit dwell meter and tach.

Wish I had that, although dwell cannot be set on a HEI. Still.

:waytogo:
Ya, but you still gotta use a tach for setting the carb, and you know it's kind of inconvenient to try to use the one in the cab if you have one. BTW, as a rule of thumb dash tachs are no where near as accurate as a hand held.

I stole this picture off the internet, but the unit I have at work looks just like this. I bought it used when I was starting out working on cars in the early 90's and I still use it at work.

Found told school style craftsman wrenches at Napa so I grabbed a sae and metric set. I don't likebthe newer thinner chrome ones as much as this style. They just feel better in my hand.

I really really want a 2" belt sander, but it's hard to find a decent one. Anyone have any experience and recommendations?

If you want good big power tools like that, jet is what you want. But it is expensive. Not positive they make a 2 inch, but I'm sure they do.

You are correct, the Jet brand is really nice quality. They start at $600 plus and go up to $1300. I really would like one of the models they have but I'm having trouble justifying the cost for am occasional use tool. Plus a friend has a huge shop with two different belt sanders, so I really don't "need" it, But I have wanted one for a long time. Wish I could find something clean used and reasonable priced.

For a heavier use item I would go with jet for sure. But I also enjoy the vintage stuff and it's usually as good or better than new stuff, with some love. Just gotta hunt em down.

We had a couple of vintage bench mounted ones in the shop, I know one was a 1 inch. I think the other was a 2. I think I prefer the 1 inch, but there is a benefit to the 2 inch sometimes.

One of my buddies turned me on to this. He said the Japanese use them all over Japan. He said he uses the for working under cars, and trucks, to keep dirt, and crim out of his eyes. I thought it was a great idea so I got one from where he got his. It fits really well I was surprised. It's light, and the plastic is treated with anti fog, and it has vents in the bottom.

I found one of these at the thrift store a few months ago.
Super nice to use, no more just saving my eyes with safety glasses.
Whole face protection is so worth it.

If you could not tell, I like browsing the thrift stores for doo-dads.
One that I always look at is the flashlight section.
I love the style and look of the old lights.

Yesterday, I found this True Value beauty whilst looking for a new to me powered subwoofer for the home theater as ours had just died.
It is a big one with 5 batteries in it and in awesome shape over all.

Here is the Eveready Captain that I found another day.
I have replaced the bulb with a 3 volt LED version with 200 lumens.

We were watching Stanger Things and they were using these flashlights on the show.
A few days later this one showed up at my favorite place to find things I don't need but want anyway for a massive $1.99.
Another Ray-O-Vac that works perfectly.

Thanks for letting me nerd out on old ass flashlights.
With the new long one, I am thinking I will do a conversion on it using the newer lithium batteries that are 6v each. Three of those and a matching 18v LED bulb will make one hell of a cool light.

I put one of the 3v LED's in it last night and fed it 7.5v.
It lasted for just a few minutes before the bulb quit, but holy hell was it bright.

Here they all are and all Made in USA...

Holy cow. Boy do those lights bring back memories. My father had a 5 cell aluminum one just like those when I was a kid.
