hey guys so i have an 86 305 c10 overdive transmission. so what happens is it shifts into third and pretty much immediately into fourth. i adjusted the tv cable so it runs out the gears or runs out second pretty good so it doesnt shift into fourth at like 25 mph. wen i did this first to second is a little rough. whats weird to me is i can set the tv cable and first to second will shift great but will immediately hit fourth right after third. but if i adjust the tv basically all the way to the cab it runs out second a hell of a lot better but still shifts fiourth to soon but then my first to second is a little rough. i thought i got everything in my mind out on this post any quwestioons please ask thanks for the help guys.

When you set the TV cable, did you use a pressure gauge? If not, the TV cable won't be set correctly. You can read about the method on www.bowtieoverdrives.com

normally(depending on your rearend ratio) the 700r4 shifts into 2nd at 15mph, 3rd at 25 mph, 4th at 35mph and locks the converter at 45mph. Some 700r4's lock the converter when it immediately goes into 4th (35mph). Some lock in 3rd also.

that is just a generalization... but it's exactly how mine does and I have read that most others do as well.

what is yours doing exactly (mph)?

Mine goes into OD faster than I'd like too, except for when I'm getting on it. Does it hold 3rd a little longer if you're getting on it??

Yes, it's an overdrive trans. So 3rd is passing gear, sometimes 2nd. Converter lockup almost feels like a 5th gear.

Yeah, that was moreso for Cody. Sorry about that. Trying to decipher if it's doing like it's supposed to and he just doesn't like it, or if it's actually not setup right.

Yes I can keep it from shifting if I touch the gas pedal even like the slitest bit I can run it out but when grandma is driving infront of me it bogs way out doesn't bounce or do anything wierd slowly pulls out until I give it a little. I know these trannys r way different than new ones they r a little bam into the next gear.

That is not how to adjust the TV cable, but it is a great way to burn up that transmission quickly. I'd suggest you read the article at bowtieoverdrives.
