So the oil pump goes out on the 86 k10 w/87 engine in it. I bought another 350 and ran the numbers. It's a 75 350. For the life of me I could not get the 700r4 to line up. Finally I noticed the flex plate sticking out further on the old one compared to the new one. After removing flex plate from both engines, I see why. The back end of the crank is sticking out on the older engine (with what looks to be a balance of some sort....dunno what it's called).

1. Can I use the torque converter that was on the original engine?
2. Guessing I need an adapter plate between engine/tranny?
3. If adapter plate is needed, will I need different motor mounts with the shift forward?
4. Am I screwed get a newer engine?

Thanks In Advance
'Maro

Spacer might be a better term for it instead of adapter.

No, it should bolt up. '86 and newer blocks have a different rear seal design, using a different style crank and flexplate. The flexplate needs to match the crank, also need to make sure it wasn't bolted on backwards. With the converter fully seated and the trans bolted to the engine, you should have to pull the converter out a little to put the bolts in.

Thx Bucket. I found the problem. 3 shops said to me the same thing today.....it should work. All also said are you sure the converter didn't back out a bit through all you attempts?

Reinstalled converter, once aligned....bam pushed right up to it.

LOL, I'll suck it up as a "check this first" learning experience. Been since the early 90's since I've changed a motor.
