Swap to manual locking hubs

I swapped out my automatic hubs to warn manual locking hubs on 85 Chevy k10. Question I got is, when I finished and truck still jacked up I locked in passenger side and spun wheel and pinion yoke spun (I had driveshaft off putting in new u-joints). Then I unlocked it and tried the drivers side, but when I spun the drivers side the axel spun but not the yoke. Is this normal?

Yup. Open differential. The rotational force wasn't enough to overcome the pinion to ring gear contact and bearing preload, compared to the force to turn the spider gears inside the carrier.
