I have a 1985 gmc 1500 4x4 that we swapped a 350 out of a 1995 yukon we converted this fuel injected motor to carb. put less than 500 miles on this used motor that i had a guy put new main bearings and rods in and also a timing chain the other day the truck backfired going down the highway and lost all power. had it hauled home on a rollback did compression test and #2 has no compression. havent pulled the motor yet any ideas of what im instore for? any help is greatly appreciated

Why were the bearings replaced?

Need to pull the valve cover and look for valvetrain damage (easiest to check, but probably not the case here) and then pull the pan and see if something went kablooey.

I pulled the valve cover and see no major signs up there. also pulled pan and see nothing major. oil was a abit shinny but no big hunks of metal or anything. he replaced the main bearings and rods just to be safe since we knew nothing about the motor also replaced the heads due to seeing a crack and the timing chain just because he was rt there the truck always smelled like gas when it was running just wonder if it burnt a piston. are you familiar with this engine swap at all???

Something's rotten in Denmark. I think it sounds like you could have more than one issue.

So I'm assuming the engine won't start? Have you checked for spark? If it has a dead hole, it should still be able to run (poorly) if it's not locked up. I'm assuming that it's not locked up since you were able to test compression.

Glitter in the oil is a very bad sign. That alone says the engine needs overhauled.

I'd be pulling it out and find out what's going on in there before more damage occurs..

Thank you guys. Im gonna pull the motor next weekend . It isn't locked up. i pulled it into the garage under its own power. it did blow a small rubber plug out of the driver side valve cover and its pushing compression out of this hole now when it ran. once i get the motor out hopefully i will know a ton more
