Can anyone please help me identify what the name of this part is? It connects the the speedometer cable and the other end goes into back of my 4 speed trans. I am trying to get my speedometer to stop jumping all over the place and would like to replace this part as well but I cant figure out the exact name of it to order a new one.

Thanks!!

most of the time a jumpy speedo is in the speedo itself not down at the trans, just usally needs greased or oiled in behind the gauge or what not. Definitely not the easiest thing.

As for the part, no clue, never seen one. It's almost like a vss signal converter or something.

Not sure but it looks like just an adapter, either for thread sizes or to keep oil in the transfer case. I agree with swims tho, jumpy speedo is likely just in need of a good cleaning and oiling. The inside cable can slide out and be cleaned and reoiled as well, no need to replace it unless its damaged.

its called a speedo gear transducer,, they ether speed up the speed of the speedo cable or slow it down depending on how far off the speedometer is in actual mph.......

they are very expensive,, and are calibrated to the drive gear on the main shaft of the trans and the driven gear tooth count,, there will be a ratio stamped on it some place indicating what the ratio is.. i would suggest replacing the speedo cable first before doing anything else,, i find that fixes the needle bounce on all my trucks most of the time.... its the easiest and safest bet.......

It's also used to calibrate your speedo. It looks like the type you can pull apart, and pull or add pins to it to make your speedo accurate. Speedometer shops use them alot or did years ago. Technology is better now and they weren't very dependable since they didn't seem to last a long time then your speedo would quit working. So if you speedo isn't working, it's possible that is your problem right there.

When You remove the speedo cable from that adapter, do NOT LOOSE the speedo cable "Drive Key", if it has one.
The drive key key will be small and can be easily lost or, left on the old speedo cable.
It will be made of plastic, about an inch or less long, it will have a lug built on one side, to fit into the adapter and, the center will be square to fit over the cable.
