Well, it’s been a while since I’ve posted an update. Figured it’s about time since today was the first day back on the road (big smile).

Since I tore into this thing I’ve done the following:

-Edelbrock Performer intake manifold
-thermostat
-valve covers
-Edelbrock Avs2 650 carburetor
-Edelbrock air cleaner
-steering box
-braided transmission lines
-aluminum radiator
-new weatherstripping on the vent windows and door windows.

Up next: replace the rear slider window and tackle that old interior. Thinking about putting this tube grille on, any thoughts?

looks like that tube grille is for the newer 81-87 all square them older ones the last bar is usually a lil shorter across since the grilles taper down on the older ones. I could be wrong but the ones I've seen for te older trucks do. Is the bars all flat no peak in the middle? The one dad has they all have a peak in the middle I guess to match the slight peak out of the trucks where the older trucks do not they are flat?

I'll take it for my 86. Dad has one on his 84 I want one for mine.

Good looking truck! Can I ask you what size rim and tires you are running?

Welcome to GMSB. That is a great looking truck just the way it is. I too would leave the exterior just like it is with the patina, even the passenger side dent. Factory grill. If I did anything, I'd just super light wet sand it and clear it with a couple coats.

You need to start a build thread with that one.

I like the factory grille better.
I do too. I hated the tube grille on mine when I got it. I finially did something about it. Found a decent one at pull apart odd a 79 and strengthened it up where it has cracks on the sides with plastic gussets and epoxy. Painted it and put a new bowtie on.

Like everyone else says, keep the original. Grills change every few years so it's nice to be able to tell which year model(s) the truck is.

Nice truck BTW, I would like to find a short bed round eye.

Yeah, the more I’ve thought about it, the more I want to keep the original grille. Thanks for all the suggestions guys.
