Hey gents been a while since i messed with my squares but i spent an hr last sat in the junk yard and i tripped over this nice smooth np205. it has been in the grass a long time tho but its smooth and solid. That is a turbo350 attached to it. the out put spline count is 32 does that mean its a 32 input? or 27 cus its a tb350? Also he wants $250 for it.

The th350 make it a 27 spline input.

All 205's have a 32 spline output, the differences are bolt on vs slip style yokes.

IMO, $250 is a lot for just the case but not so bad for the trans AND t-case.

Aww so it should go in the 79 well. Im assuming my 77 tb400 is 32 spline? Also since this is a slip yoke and a tb350 this would be out of a 80's 3/4ton? i guess cus every 70's ive ever seen doesn't use the slip yolk and being a tb350 vs 700r4. But i guess all the 1980 came with this combo.

As far as price pickings are slim around here for stuff like this and the trans case has a hole in the side so i don't want it anyways.

I sold a np205 with adapter plate that was for a th350 trans. The guy who bought it had a 400 trans, I knew nothing like if it would work or not. He went to install it but The splines are different. He tore it apart thinking just swap the shafts out. The bearings are different too. I offered to give the guy his money back but he said it was his fault.

The TH400 version np205 uses a female 32 spline input with a larger bearing. The 4spd has a male 10 spline input and the TH350 has a male 27 spline input, both of these versions use a drive female sleeve to couple the trans tailshaft to the t-case input shaft as well as both using the same smaller bearing.

A 10 or 27 spline case can be converted to 32 but you'd need to bore the case for the larger bearing.

The np205 was the ONLY transfer case used in 1980 regardless of body style.

All of this applies to the pre '85 cases with the figure "8" bolt pattern adapter.

************

'85+ use a round pattern adapter and ALL use the same 32 spline female input shaft. From this point until '91 the only difference is the adapter itself.

************

As for the slip yoke vs bolt on yoke for the rear tailshaft it gets a little weird. The slip yoke was introduced in either '78 or '79 and continued until '91. What dictates the yoke style is the truck cab - Crew cabs (2pc rear driveshaft) get a bolt on yoke, everything else is a slip yoke.
