what is the a good gear ratio for me? I want something i can haul pretty heavy loads with, but something that isn't gonna kill me in gas. also higher speeds dont not interest me at all.

with the set up that is listed on your profile, I think you have 2 choices.
4.10's if your running a near stock size tire
and
4.56's if your running anything between a 33"-36" tire

I have 4.56's and I run 265 70 17's with a 4L80E fuel mileage is right around 12-14.

the SM465 is a good transmission to have for pulling, but you defintly still want to have adequate gears to save your clutch.
