Hey all. Working on my 1980 c10 and I have intermittent not working issue with the volts/water temp/oil pressure gauges. Fuel gauge does work. I’d like to check the ground but not sure where the darn thing is. I’ve already replaced the ground strap from cab to engine block, battery to block, block to frame.

Now thinking bout it, I’m thinking it’s a bad connection on back of gauge cluster. Is my brain going on the right direction?

You are on the right track for sure. think it should be same as ours but under dash and connects to the emergency brake housing frame.

Missing cluster ground will cause a variety of dash problems with lights and gauges. but for some reason the fuel gauge might not be affected. As mentioned, there is a ground post on the emergency brake pedal mechanism, and a black cluster ground is connected to it.

On newer trucks they added a ground bus bar on the firewall up under the dash, but I don’t know the year that started.
