Installed a new fuel pump today on a 1983 Chevy Silverado 1/2 ton can not get the fuel to reach carburetor blew air through the line not blocked could here the air in the tank just not being able to get it to the carburetor wondering if the rubber hose might have a crack and possibly sucking up more air than fuel anyone have any suggestions if I'm on the right track

Try pulling the fuel directly out of a gas just to verify, and if it works right, you're gonna have to drop the tank and see what's going on with the sending unit assembly. Is it just a single tank?

Is this just a regular truck with a mechanical pump? And you tried sucking fuel out of the can with no luck. The problem is going to be upstream of the pump or the pump itself. Did you disconnect the line at its terminus to take the carb out of the equation? If so, I'd say the pump is defective or maybe your pushrod's bent. This isn't related to that Gen III stuff you asked about before is it, or is this the same truck?

Check all the hoses for cracks and make sure all clamps are tight, if the pump can grab the least bit of air it won't pull fuel..
