hello i have a 1977 k10 and i had a griding noise and feel when i hard accelerate in 4wd and a squeal when turning in 4wd.
Changed the u joints and the squeal is gone but now it grinds in 4wd and 2wd.
What could it be wheel bearings to tight or loose?

Dana 44 NP203 transfer with a part time kit.

Did you do driveshaft or axle u-joints? or both?

Does your front driveline have a double cardan joint? was it rebuilt too? what condition was the centering ball in?

Is the truck lifted? If so what do your pinion angles look like?

One test that can be done is to pull the front driveshaft to see if the noise stops. You can also pull the rear shaft and run a little ways in 4x4 to see if the noise changes (after putting the front shaft back on, of course).

I would assume if you did axle u-joints the wheel bearings and hub assemblies were cleaned & serviced while it was apart. If not, I would break the hubs down the whole way to clean, service, grease everything this is a good time to replace the axle u-joint too. Don't forget to pull the spindle to inspect the bearings under there the the axle stubs rides in...

Axle u joint

Yes it does no i haven't changed those what is the centring ball?

Yes 6 inch lift not sure about the angles just used the RC transfer case drop kit

Let me try those tests.

No all I did was the axle u joints on both sides and greased.
I was thinking maybe i put the outer wheel bearing on too tight or loose because.

Another putting it in 2wd and still hearing and feeling the grinding noise would rule out the front shaft wouldn't it?

Centering ball is inside of a double cardan joint, they are often overlooked when greasing. Many of them are greased using a needle and the zero is recessed in the assembly.

Was the noise there before the lift and before the transfer case drop?

That’s possible, how did you tighten them?

That’s the u-joint, the centering ball grease fitting is similar to this one. It’s usually buried way up in the center of the double cardan joint
