Does anyone know where to find information on the exterior decor package in the late 70's models ? I remember seeing a few but I can't find any specifics like colors or stripe dimensions .

I know it had the center of the hood painted the secondary color and several color stripes on the edge of the hood and a hood ornament. but I don't have anything to pattern off of.

That was the ZY5 rpo code.
https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-heritage-archive/historical-brochures.html
The truck brochures show example pictures of the ZY5, but I don't know if that's true for all years.

I don't know If only the 2 stripes where ZY5 or if it changed over the years.

The stripe layout changed depending on model year.

@AuroraGirl has one of those hoods and might be able to get some measurements?

Did you get the measurements off the stripes hopefully ? I suppose a guy could just guess it's not like anyone could prove you wrong unless they had an original one.

This appears to be similar, but the trucks secondary color is buckskin not white. So the hood is a tan not a white (painted)
the stripes are the same color here. by looks. that is a 78 listing im showing here

It appears the years did change the format but that's no big deal. by measurements I mean how wide is each stripe and how wide is the space between them. in other words if you were going to mask it off to shoot it what stripe dimensions would you mask off ?

The colors are listed in the GM literature so I have those .

I can find out soon, tag me if you dont see anything from me by like tomorrow mid day lol. The strips change in thickness at least I thought, but ill be able to verify that. Smart thinking about the shooting it, the vinyl or sticker idea would be more work at that rate and no one makes them already (so it would need to be custom $$)

It should be pretty easy to paint on. vinyl would work but cost more in the end I'm pretty sure. nobody makes the vinyl and I doubt they ever will since it's not very common or popular.

I’ll go the other way and say that vinyl would work well and cost may not be more than paint.
Couple half pints of good paint will run you probably $150, and that’s if you already have everything else you need.
Vinyl (not the thin vinyl wrap) but thicker like decals, is not horribly expensive. Depending on width of stripe, if less than 6”, you could get both sides of one color out of a 12” piece. It’s not difficult to cut straight with a good hard flat surface and straight edge.
The only difficulty might be finding the exact color you want.
This “kit” is $180 for the whole car. You could get a smaller qty for much less. And I had to custom “rip” a few of the pieces to make them look right.
Fwiw, the front bumper has multiple chips in the vinyl after about 25000 miles of daily driving. But has held up well otherwise.
If doing it again, and wanting better protection, I would top it with a piece of clear bra on front vertical surfaces.
