dumb question, do you have to have a cam retaining plate on 86 350

Most pre roller 350s have cam thrust button on the front...they were machined for positive rearward thrust.
i believe the roller cams do have thrust plates.
The only stupid question here, is the one you Dont ask...so no worries!you can buy plates or buttons at summit, jegs, or the local speed shop should have them.

No, that piece installs on the cam cog before you bolt it down, then the tabs bend up against the bolt heads to keep the bolts from backing out.
Just use a button, and you should be golden.

You must be registered for see images attach

you dont need the button if you use that. the button rides against the timing cover.

The retainer plate is used in the '87 and newer blocks that can accept a factory roller cam. The older blocks don't use one.
