Okay no pics and just what pops into my mind. I'd take of piece ofaluminum square tubing the length of the starter body, probably 1x1 make a 3/4 slit in each end, slip a large worm screw hose clamp in each slit. Now you can clamp a piece of square tubing to the starter body wherever you need to and screw a 10x10 sheet of aluminum with appropriate bends to the square tubing as your shield. . Hope that made sense. I drew a quick sketch.

Here's the best pic I could get of mine mounted, and a style I was leaning towards but not sure if it would fit. Like I said, many of the reviews say they dont fit.

Now if you bent your own aluminum plate to fit,you could clamp the square tubing where needed on the starter screw the plate to square tubing. Its funny that's the kind of shield I drew( not sure how visible that is though,2 minute sketch ballpoint on corrugated carboard)just a different mounting approach, more diy friendly. Have a great night.

Looks like there’s plenty of room to the header as is. Sure a heat shield can/will extend the life of the starter but this a searching for a solution to a problem that isn’t really a problem.
Personally I’d concentrate on getting the truck together which is the biggest challenge you have and put this on the “someday if I’m bored and run out of truck stuff to do” list.

This thing has never been run? You aren't having a problem? Don't worry about a heatshield 99.9% of the time there is no problem. When there is a problem the problem is that everything heats and expands changing tolerance, so now you haveva solenoid that is stuck because all the clearance is gone and it can't move,or an armature that can't turn because there's no clearance. If you aren't having a problem Don't worry about it.Any degradation of starter life us negligible, it's the inconvenience of having to wait for it to cool off so you can go home that sucks, nut if you aren't having a problem don't borrow problems. IMHO

I only asked because at the moment, its easy to get to and I can work on the chassis - the truck itself is going nowhere fast as I am waiting on a body shop thats booked til January.

I lost the last starter on it (a newer - much larger Bosch) - from the heat.

I'll take care if it. Thanks.
I hope we didn't discourage you or offend you. I was just trying to help.

No worries. Was just asking a question is all. Gotta remember to stop doing that. lol
I think I gave you 2 good replies,I just regret the 3rd one. I should have left it at how to make a heat shield.not my opinion of why I don't think you need one. My bad. Apologies
