Cummins swap

So I'm probably gonna swap a cummins into my truck. I'm wanting to buy entire truck to swap the engine out of. I am going to rebuild the engine before it goes in, so mileage isn't a problem. My question is what generation engine should I go with. Around me early 12v are the cheapest and then 24v and the later 12v are priced about the same. Is there any reason why I shouldnt swap an early 12v and then build it to have more power with the extra money? I guess I really just need some opinions.

89-93 are the easiest to swap, least amount of wires
94-98.5 are PPump motors and are the strongest ones out there

my vote is for a PPump motor

How hard is it to put a ppump on a 89-93.?

Also how much HP and torque can I put through a nv4500 and a 14bt ff rear end. Without it breaking constantly.

for the price it would cost you would be better off just finding a used ppump motor, but there is nothing wrong with 89-93 12v except 89-90 were not intercooled though

Also how much HP and torque can I put through a nv4500 and a 14bt ff rear end. Without it breaking constantly.

the 14b will hold up to ALOT, the stock nv4500 clutch will start to slip after the first group of upgrades(http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/9...ssion/314312-beginners-thread-read-first.html) and down the road, were talking like 500hp a billet input shaft will be needed

also do some research on 5th gear nut problems

Ya not even comparable. A 6.2 is the equivelant of a low power 350 with a little extra toque and better fuel mileage. A 6.2 is about 1/4- 1/3 the motor of a 5.9
