I just recently purchased an 87' that has been sitting up a while. Motor only has 3k miles on it. Fuel tanks are clean, new fuel pump & filter. I'm having issues with the truck staying running when I come to a complete stop or when going from reverse to drive or vice versa. Doesn't do it all the time. what should I start with first to diagnose this problem. New to these trucks but not new to chevrolets.

Does it restart right away? Any other sysmptoms? When switching from park to drive or reverse are you stepping on the brakes. What if you don't step on the brakes?

I wonder if it is a vacuum issue. does it have a vacuum operated brake booster? You could drive it for a bit with the line to the booster plugged and see if the problem goes away. You won't have power brakes when you do this so bear that in mind.
