Hey, hows everyone doing?

Im digging into a 77 K10 rebuild and am in need of a full cab replacement. So far the only quality cab Ive come across is an 85. Im curious as to how in depth of a project it would be to perform that full swap, and how much of the sheet metal/mechanicals/ and electronics would have to be changed. This is a body off frame job so some modifications arent a huge deal. But just trying to get a better idea of how in depth of a job it would be, before I pull the trigger and pickup the cab.

Thanks for all your input and feedback

It’s a lot less work then going the other way, everything will transfer over, if you go 86 and put a 79 cab on you have to make modifications to the upper front cab corners like my nightmare lol, originally my dad just cut the rectangular holes to accommodate the newer style hood hinges, but you won’t have to do that.. slight alterations to alignment and mounting holes but nothing major bubba

I'm in the same situation. I have a 75 4wd manual with the typical cab rust, rockers, floor and kick, but it extends up to the blower motor area. I have the repair panels but not sure if I can get through it so I thought of just getting an 80s cab for the swap. I also already have the fenders and radiator support.

Late to the party here. I'm doing the same swap. I have a 77 chassis and need a cab. I found a real nice cab off an 84. Mine truck is 4wd with the 4 speed. Besides the trans hump, will my fenders and hood bolt up? Will the wire harness connections work for wiring? I'm in dire need of some info. I appreciate any and all help.

Thanks,
Dan

On my ‘75 K25 the trans hump is bolted in, so it would be easy to remove it and use it as a pattern for cutting out the area in a newer truck. Not sure about a ‘77.

FYI- I also found out that the cab hump in my ‘75 is really close to the drivetrain. When I installed new cab bushings it raised the body up, and all of a sudden the truck was much quieter. Turns out that the cab with worn bushings was sitting right on the drivetrain, and transmitting all the noise into the cab.
