I had an '86 longbed 4x4 w 700r transmission and 6.2. Had transmission built to handle 500 lb/ft torque. Put a Banks turbo on it w Peninsular Marine injectors n injection pump. Was putting close to 300hp w/out intercooler. Immediately blew rear main seal out as it was old engine. Replaced seal and it lasted me over 2 yrs of hard abuse before I sold it. It would spin 31" BFG All terrains at will.

If they are still in business, check out Peninsular Marine. They make a lot of stuff for marine application 6.2 n 6.5's. This was in 2000.

I had a Banks turbo on my 86 military K30. Banks claimed +60 hp so the J code 6.2 made 215 hp. It did make a big enough difference to justify putting the money into the turbo kit. Leaving the TH400 in it with the 4.56 will give you the fastest 0 to 55 mph 6.2 but it will be a time bomb. I put a Monster super duty 700R4 in it and ran it highway speeds without over revving the engine. Lockup the converter will theoretically give you a 5th gear. Fuel mileage was ridiculous at about 25+ mpg if you can keep your foot out of the fuel tank.
