@xm20k - those clamp bolts seem to get the factory black anti rust/sealant goop.

The wrench slips and the old knuckles will be crying...

Scraped about 1/2in of cosmoline/coating off of it. The OG paint under that stuff was beautiful though lol

Arrrgh ! .. I would recommend a trip to the junk yard and pull out a replacement from something similar.

At least you will know that it will fit and work. Aftermarket always seems to throw up unforseen problems ( like a domino effect ). PLUS - you know you can always get service parts from local Auto parts shop / Rock Auto etc. when needed.

OEM will just do the job, and all that chrome will either rust, look dated or both within a couple of years ( my 10c, I'll get back in my box now ... )

Oh I’ve owned like 30+ mk2 2 doors lol a lot of my friends still have em. They are getting harder to find thou! My son has an 83 4 door golf we swapped and have been working on as well. I can never shake the VW fever

After hours of hunting the Internet to find no one has the a new floor/firewall steering column gasket. I found a site out of so cal. Ordered it. Got an email this morning it’s on indefinite back order.

This is why we can’t have nice things!

Curious if anyone has a nice clean non dry rotted one sitting around?!
