    Hydroboost squealing

Under agressive braking the power steering pump squeals and I get pedal feedback almost feels like ABS feedback and there's not as much stopping power as I'd like. Truck is an 87 one ton with hydroboost. New master cylinder and PS pump. Also worth noting that I replaced the master cylinder due...

    Just built 355 overheating!

Update on the temp problem, two sending unit in a row were bad, or the guage. Verified with a heat gun. But my potential timing issue still remains, so I will have to work on that tomorrow. Thanks.

    Just built 355 overheating!

Wow appreciate the responses! Got to look at it some more today, I think after a lot of tweaking I figured this out: Electronic advance doesn't seem to be working right. I set base timing at 5 degrees advance, then plugged the wire back in, which brings it to about 18 advance at idle. Revving up...

    Just built 355 overheating!

It's upgraded to a 18 psi regulator. Haven't pulled plugs again yet. If it's lean, would having a custom chip burned potentially be a fix?

    Just built 355 overheating!

Want to pick y'all's brains. Just got my fresh 355 in the rig and broke in. It has a rebuilt/modified TBI unit and vortec fuel pump to support the power bump from the vortec heads, mild cam (SUM-K1102), headers etc. Ever since during break in process, I can't keep this engine cool. It will sit...

    14 bolt FF compatibility

    Is everything identical between a 14 bolt FF from a 87 C20 and from a 1998 truck?

    Gooseneck hitch in flat bed

Wanting to put a gooseneck set up on my 87, but not sure how to go about it. As you can see the flat bed definitely has a place for one and it's definitely built heavy, the plate inside the spot in the bed is at least 3/8" but but it's not directly over the axle and I'm wondering if the hitch...

    Need TBI 350 build advice

Getting closer, me (left) and a few buddies got it bolted in and I started hooking some things up.

    Need TBI 350 build advice

Update on this: Just got it back from the shop and started piecing it back together. Quick summary of what I ended up with: Vortec heads, Summit K1102 cam, bored w/ new pistons and moly rings, etc. Nothing wild but I'm excited about it. I've been working on putting on all the belt drive stuff...

    What is this sensor?

I think you're on to something @CorvairGeek and like the rest of you suggests it appears the sensor is an earlier style. With no definitive answer, instead of causing more headaches I'm gonna stick with the old saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it"

    What is this sensor?

This was in I believe the driver side head, the other side had a knock sensor in it about similar location if I remember correctly . This looks like a coolant temp sensor to me but the plug is not like anything I can find online. So is that what it is? I can't go look at the truck because the...

    Need TBI 350 build advice

Brought it to my builder today and he tore it down. He's bringing the block to a shop to clean it up, bore it out and resurface the deck. Going to be about a month before I get it back but I won't forget to update this thread.. Thanks for everyones input so far

Steering gear box replacement or rebuild?

Steering box is leaky and very sloppy on my 87 R3500 with hydro boost if that matters... Is there a good quality and cost affective reman or new unit out there? Or should I have some one rebuild mine. If that's the way I should go what is the preferred company? Thanks all

    Need TBI 350 build advice

@Rusty Nail nail I agree there. I'm definitely trying to make those things happen to not hold it back. I have exhaust taken care off and plan to do just what u mention. Might be another month before I get to some of the rest although I understand that it will be a big restrictor without doing...

    Need TBI 350 build advice

Awesome I appreciate the feedback from y'all... Little update on this project: Snagged a set of nicely rebuilt 96-99 vortec heads from a long time machinist, set up to run up to .500" valve lift (Smoking deal on them!!) and an appropriate Jegs intake manifold and a TBI adapter plate. I have...

    TBI vortec heads compression???

Well got the old 191 heads off yesterday. Looks pretty decent in there. Lifters had zero signs of wear. So looks like odometer hasn't rolled yet.

    TBI vortec heads compression???

Does anyone know what kind of compression ratio would result with putting vortec heads (Casting 906)on a TBI 350 with stock pistons?

    Need TBI 350 build advice

I have a 1987 GMC R3500. TBI 350, TH400, 4.56 gears. I am looking for more out of the engine. I realize that TBI is not ideal for making more power but I want to keep it as much original as I can as the rest of the truck is basically as it came from factory. I mostly use the truck for pulling...

Rear 10 Bolt to Dana 60?

Have a 91 Suburban with a 10 bolt rear end and found a Dana 60 rear from a 198? chevy. What is involved in this swap? Does everything line up as far as springs and shocks, etc.?

    TH350 pink foamy fluid

I'll drain it, replace the filter and refill it to the right level and see what happens. If it doesn't work right still what rebuild kits should I look at? It will need to hold up to quite a bit as I plan to be over 300 hp out of my 350, pulling trailers, hooking to a sled on occasion, and hard...

    TH350 pink foamy fluid

Have been troubleshooting why my transmission barely moves the truck forward, and only sometimes has strong reverse. Was replacing the vacuum modulator on the outside of the transmission and stuck the new one in without the bolt in just to see if it solved my problems. It didn't really fix...

Front Driveshaft From 700R4 208 Rig

    Anyone used engine restorer?

I used it in my suburban when I first got it because it would roll smoke out the pipe, burning oil. After I added that stuff it hardly does it at all unless you hammer on it when it isn't warmed up yet.
