Don't be argumentative just for the sake of it. Yes, you can install a 4 cyl with a turbo and make more power than a stock smogger 454, but that obviously is not my point. EVERYONE can see the point made, destroking your 400 will not instantly make it a high revving powerhouse that blows away...- 68post

Destroking an engine is a step backwards, unless it is to reach a cubic inch limit for class racing. Potentially less HP, or maybe the same HP - but at a higher rpm, but always with less TQ. 302 ci loses to a 327, and the same comparing a 327 to a 350, or 350 to a 400. 14 bolt gear ratio?
The quick n dirty is a trans swap only. Small differences in rear gear ratio are hardly noticed unless there's a big jump, and around town - not at all. The .70 overdrive of a 4L60/700R4 makes the 4.56 gear feel like a 3.21 exactly (do the math, 3.192). I wouldn't go with any higher in a truck...- 68post

Question on tire size for an '85 K20...
Your rim width, if wider than stock, will have an effect on what rubs. 33's on a ten inch rim will hit the back of the front fender on a K30, I can hear mine touch with new springs, 1" zero rates, and ORD HD shackles (extra 1/2"). My rims are 10" tho' and 305 tire size, 285's fit better -...- 68post

Keep in mind that spending money to achieve better mileage is very counterproductive until the monies spent is gained back, which takes time, sometimes a lot of time, if ever !- 68post

Yep..snow, mud, hills, hollars..you name it. The big box trk used to get suck in 2" of mud under one dual, after installing the DT locker 6" of snow in the street or off road didn't bother it !- 68post

This all matched my experience with using a Detroit in my cab n chassis (w/14' box), nothing more surprising than going straight at a stop sign with the wheels turned before pushing in the clutch and the truck finally does turn. Lots of popping, banging, and crunching sounds, just not at all...- 68post

Need help with SM465
I didn't see you get this answered so here you go. Several yrs ago I asked a customer of mine that is a retired Allisons engineer if using Mobil 1 75w-90 gear oil was ok in my SM465, he said that would be excellent and that they nearly stop wearing at all once broken-in and the fluid changed...- 68post

I installed all new stock springs all around on my K30 along with 1" Zero rates and heavy duty ORD shackles on the front springs which add a half inch also. Worth every penny, I wouldn't sell it at that price - they don't make them new anymore !! How many "Silverado" "454"s sold, how many this solid ? Needs a little love, and wrong color for me but better than gray, but a remake would warrant a color change and this is worth that. It will sell fast...
