    Another isolator thread...help

You have two batteries: the Main/Starter battery and the AUX battery. The isolator you ordered connects the two batteries in parallel (pos to pos, neg to neg) when it reads a minimum of 13.2v on the main battery, then disconnects when it reads below 12.7v. When they're connected, the alternator...

    Another isolator thread...help

The isolator I have in my truck is a Wirthco 20092 Battery Doctor 125 amp/150 peak amp. It's pretty much a "smart" relay in that it automatically connects the two batteries when there is at least 14v on the starting battery. When it falls below that, it will automatically disconnect the two...

    Another isolator thread...help

Starting battery is the main battery in that everything original runs off of it. You'd use the aux battery to run all the additional accessories such as lights, winch, inverter, power to a camper, fridge, etc. Isolators are used to charge the battery when there is power on the system and...

    Dies on speed bumps/sudden spots

Happened to me going over a pretty harsh speed bump. Ended up being that the float got stuck in the bowl after it reached a certain point. Swapped out the float for a new one and never had the issue again.

    350 - Cranking, won't fire

I have one of the 3/16-1/4" carb gaskets. I would need to get a new fuel line if I get a thicker spacer than that between the carb and intake manifold. I'm not sure what you mean by an intake leak. Appreciate the quick help though.

    350 - Cranking, won't fire

Working on the truck today. Got the distributor all set up again. Appeared to be 180 out, but now having another issue. Truck will fire up easily, but then the throttle will run away right up to 2k rpms, hold for a couple seconds then tank to 600-800 then die. All without actually applying the...

A/C Compressor pulley not aligned after engine back in.

Good to hear. Wish mine worked. Found out the compressor is seized last time I accidentally threw it on bi-level.

    Newbie welding

I've got a Lincoln SP140 at home that I've mainly used for 16ga sheet and .06" wall tubing. I wanted the 180C for the ease of working with thicker material (as well as having a continuous amperage setting versus a tapped one like most at the hardware stores), but the changes needed to be done at...

    350 - Cranking, won't fire

Completely new rebuild and block (original was a 1974 010 block, new one is a 1986 036 block), so haven't had the truck running since about April 2017 with initial teardown. Some parts weren't actually used (valves, valve seals, valve springs springs) as these were reused/reconditioned or...

    350 - Cranking, won't fire

Just rebuilt the steering column as well since the old shift tube broke at the plastic bits. Whats an nss? She spins great with the heavier starter and a new battery, but just wasn't firing.

    350 - Cranking, won't fire

Actually having some rain here in California for once. Been going since Friday, and gonna last until Wednesday/Thursday-ish. So gotta wait until the rain's all gone to get anything done. Definitely sounds like you all agree its 180 out, and so did my dad too. I'll have to get someone to help me...

    350 - Cranking, won't fire

I set it so I saw the intake valve close (around 6-8 o' clock), then continued to rotate it clockwise until it reached the 0* for the timing mark. Could have missed a tooth on the cam though. It was pointed pretty close to cyl 1. maybe between 1&3. Thanks for the help.

    350 - Cranking, won't fire

Thanks guys. I'll continue on it in the morning tomorrow or on Saturday. I marked the distributor with a paint marker when I initially made the plugs as well as have a retaining plate to help ensure I don't mess up the firing order in the future. I'll double check the voltage at the HEI...

    350 - Cranking, won't fire

Still don't see any fuel being sprayed, but there is fuel in the intake manifold when looking down through the secondaries. Smoke in the carb and more pops from the exhaust now. Possible that the distributor is 180 out?

    350 - Cranking, won't fire

Verified spark with a timing light on cyl 1. I can smell fuel in the carb, but I don't see any fuel being sprayed when pumping the throttle cable. Getting a pop out of the exhaust now after further cranking.

    350 - Cranking, won't fire

Hey guys, Trying to get my truck running today. New build, but I can't get it to fire. It's cranking easily, but just won't fire. Has a small pop with a bit of smoke, but I can't tell if it's coming from the carb or from the exhaust since it's headers to muffler to tip right about the transfer...

    Grill and bumper swap

I personally don't care for the phantom billet/tube grilles all that much, so i'd vote bumperettes and the bottom grille if it cleans up real nice. Use whichever bumper is in better condition. I'd try and give the bottom grille a fresh coat of paint on the stripe to match the body too.

    Welding help needed.

I'm definitely still a novice/hobbyist welder and the majority of my recent experience is repairs on .06 mild steel tubing for go kart chassis at work, but that's mainly just welding up the bent/broken chassis back together and sending it back out. The welder I use is a Lincoln 140 with .035"...

Do GM crate 350's have soft cams ?

Lost an intake lobe on cyl #5 in my 350. Wasn't completely wiped, but it sure was done. That was on an Isky replacement after ~50-60k on it over 30+ years.
