    What Engine Do I Have

If you pull a valve cover you can find the casting number fairly easy. The reason mention it is 906 vortecs heads flow amazing. With those heads and a mild cam you have some serious torque and HP.

    1981? 350 in a C20 - Vacuum/sensor questions

Rick nailed it. This is more or less how my 1985 305 is plumbed now and it runs well. Important, run a new distributor vacuum advance hose directly to the intake manifold port behind your carburetor. OEM setup ran that hose through an number of sensors and branched out God only knows how many...

Nice looking rig! Check if the tanks are properly vented. My 85 dual tank has the vent going to the charcoal canister.

    Valve Spring Retainers for 305

LOL, True! I had rags covering all the oil return holes in the head so it could have been much worse. I saw it fall off down the drivers side and for the life of me could not find the darn thing. I've ended up buying a rebuilt pair of heads so no need to go on with this topic. New heads are a...

    Valve Spring Retainers for 305

Thanks Rick, clearly this is the answer. The valve stems are 11/32 as they should be so it has to be a valve retainer/lock mismatch. I just assumed they were all universal. Will report back!

    Valve Spring Retainers for 305

Rick, they are the two part cone lock/keeper that attach to the valve ends holding valve spring retainers. I'm replacing the valve seals. On the very first valve I lost the keeper! LOL typical. :disgust:

    Valve Spring Retainers for 305

I'm having a heck of a time finding the correct size 305 valve spring retainer sets. I ordered from Summit and the Jungle Place but the retainers were too large. In both cases I was very specific 1985 C10 305. My Go-To O'Reilly's can't get them. NAPA guy did not know what they were! Am I missing...

Borgeson as Gilmore suggested. I'm likely to get a Borgeson or Red Head. Red Head is about a ten minute drive from us. Listening to; Give Me 40 Acres as I type this.

Vacuum lines where do they go

Jimmy, if you can give us the quadrajet series number that would be helpful too. It should be 1705XXXX, the X's specific type.

Vacuum lines where do they go

Your choke pull off hose should go to a carburetor port very nearby on the rear. Your choke is hard to view in those pictures. I installed a new electronic choke kit that is simple to install. You need 12 volts switched. This can be had from your wiper motor.

Vacuum lines where do they go

I'm confused. You say the truck runs fine except for cold starts? Changing carburetors would do what exactly? Quadrajets do have many vacuum ports but they are fairly easy to sort out. Others here have explained the three vacuum lines that most concern you. 1) Vacuum advance goes to its...

    I finally gave up.

I recently got a dash pad cover from Ebay that looks very good. Have not installed it yet. Fair about of work removing the old pad and installing the new one but is doable. https://www.ebay.com/itm/184510416999

    Rear Brake Options 87

I agree, stay with stock drum brakes they are simple and reliable. Mike B makes an important point...... Quality brake pads do make a difference. I'd be curious what pads folks suggest. Also you may want to look at replacing those aging brake hoses.

    83 C10 Vacuum System [HELP]

Bo69, what engine type were you thinking to swap out to? The vacuum lines are complicated but not impossible to sort out. Most can be removed and blocked/plugged at the carburetor. The Quadrajet is a fine carburetor easy to rebuild and can provide outstanding performance. Your truck may be...

EFE, traditional Heat riser & thermac informational

I agree with you SirRobyn. From what I've read a stock EFE setup is effective and causes no performance issues if in proper working condition. I'm missing the cold air snorkel other than that my truck is bone stock and seems to work. I will say this. All the vacuum lines steel tubing and other...
